Guns in schools, open carry or not, roundly rejected in Michigan poll [View all]
You may not believe this, but 52 percent of National Rifle Association members in Michigan do not favor the open carry of weapons in schools. That opinion persists whether they own a shotgun, rifle or handgun.
That's just one of the revealing findings in an EPIC-MRA survey that also found regardless of where you live, there is not a majority for open or concealed carry in the schools. Even up North, where the gun culture is alive and well, 68 percent don't want their kids to see a weapon in school, and 57 percent oppose concealed weapons.
The NRA numbers on concealed guns are closer, as 64 percent favor that while 27 percent do not. In comparison, non-gun owners are staunchly against any guns, as 81 percent oppose open carry and 72 percent oppose hiding the guns.
The issue based on gender shows only one slight difference. Fifty percent of the men are OK with concealed guns, while 66 percent of the women are not. The two agree on opposing open carry: 64 percent for men and 73 percent for women.
