The main characters were not all that different from me in age, so it really hit home for me. I saw it only a few months after starting college, and I was coming out of my own shell. The movie emphasized to great effect the contrast being those lively, freedom-loving, life-loving kids and the horrible cruelty of Nazi regime. I loved swing music, too, and I bought the soundtrack.
