Terrible accident plowing through a dense residential neighborhood on the south side…but…had the flight lasted only seconds longer it would have been a disaster of epic proportions, hitting a full elementary school right under the landing path to Midway. Had it been about 30 seconds shorter, it would have landed on our house. Not to be outdone, dad was a teacher at an elementary school at the other end of the same runway and 4 years later, a B-25 fell short on approach and clipped the flagpole at the school before taking out several houses across the street.
