for the annual volunteer clean-up of the campus. We were exhausted from the day's work. We were in the Parlor of one of the dorms, drinking wine, watching MSNBC. We saw the UVA travesty and it was so surreal.

Sweet Briar is about an hour south of UVA. Most of us decades ago had been on that campus for fraternity parties, concerts, socializing, etc. To see a recreation of a Nazi rally was horrifying. We just couldn't believe it, but there it was.

The next morning we watched Heather Heyer run over in the commercial district of Charlottesville, a few blocks away from the Farmers' Market, where I had shopped.

I kept thinking, not in Charlottesville. But it was.
