...who told me not to feel guilty about welcoming a successor sooner rather than later, also said very much the same thing you did - we welcome our animals into our lives, knowing full well we will likely outlive them, but we do it anyway, because life is better with them in it.

I was also touched by the person you quoted who spoke of himself as "4 cats old." I've had cats off and on (mostly on) since I was 5, and by his reckoning, I am 25 cats old. Lots of paw prints on my 73 year old heart. We haven't had only one cat in a very long time. The jump from 2 to 3 is the biggest change, I think, and after that, it's like, "Hey, what's one more?"
