Martini Update [View all]

A few days after her diagnosis, she became very lethargic. She just laid around all day and night and didn't take any interest in anything. She no longer put up a fight when I gave her her medication. I carried her down the stairs. She would only eat half the treats I gave her. Once day, she came to the couch and sat there, looking at me. I said "Come to Mama" and she just sat there and then walked away. She always came when I called her. I was so upset. I thought I had months with her and here it was less than a week. I gave her a mushroom from my pizza and she just sniffed at it and walked away. She loves mushrooms! On Saturday, I couldn't find her and I began to panic until I went downstairs and she was at the top of the steps to the basement. I was so relieved.

Then as quickly as it started, it stopped. She's almost completely back to her self. When I go upstairs to give her her medication, she always comes to the top of the stairs to greet me and then lead me to the bathroom where she would stop right outside the door. I would pick her up, take her inside, shut the door and give her her 3/4 pill. The other day, she met me at the top of the stairs and then turned around and ran away! I was laughing as I was chasing her because I was so happy that she was being so frisky! Now she eats all her treats (and begs for more!) and she comes to me for pets and scritches, just like always. She's even struggling when I give her the medication, not the Incredible Hulk pose, but still resisting. I gave her a mushroom from my pizza and she gobbled it right down and cried for more. I guess she's going to have a few good days and then a few bad days. As long as she keeps having good days, we're going to keep on keeping on.

If only she could talk and tell me how she's feeling. But since she can't, it's up to me to keep a close eye on her and believe me, I do.
