7. My hyancinth story...

I bought a little pot of them at the grocery store to cheer up my guest room for some visitors. When they died back, I'd meant to plant them in my flower bed but got busy and forgot about them.

When I found the sad little pot of dirt in my garage last fall, I assumed the bulbs were goners and used it to fill a hole that the dog dug in the backyard.

Lo and behold, I had a little clump of hyacinths growing there this spring. Once they have died back again, they'll be moved to a more prominent spot (though it was fun to see that little patch of unexpected cheer every time I went out the back door.)
