3. I'll use straw this winter.

Last winter I lost about half of mine - everything in the raised bed, and part of the in-ground, and most of what survived ended up stunted. Between that and what I'd already promised to the parents and friends, I didn't end up with even really enough left for planting this year, much less some for me to eat. (I imagine they'd have taken less if I told them, but I hate to break promises.) I plant Inchelium Red. Good flavour, keeps pretty well.
