1. My understanding is that most sweet cherry trees need a pollinator.

I think I read once that it usually needs to be the same kind of cherry and there should be two per acre. My SO bought a cherry tree last year - was told it was a sweet cherry, but I have my doubts. I'll be interested to see if it bears any fruit as we also have several cherry trees in our neighborhood.
