7. Weeds?

Maybe you could try not to think of them as weeds but more as native plants that are beneficial for the local insect population. Salt the earth? uh, maybe not. I imagine that there is a native plant nursery somewhere close by. You could try them. Cardboard and newspaper work well but they should have already been there before the winter solstice. A thick layer of mulch helps too.
