4. Being on voluntary house arrest for a year actually made dieting possible for me.

Since I decided I wouldn't venture out to a grocery store at all, but would order everything on line for delivery, I was able to avoid the temptation of high-carb food. Since last March I've cut out carbs as much as possible - no bread, pasta, pastries, sweets, desserts, etc., and it made a world of difference. Also took up walking 2-4 miles every day without fail (including through the Polar Vortex), and I've now lost about 50 lbs. (didn't realize how much I'd let myself go since I retired), now down to size 12 from size 18 and no longer "overweight" per standard weight and BMI charts, but would like to lose maybe another 7 or 8 lbs.

You can do it, too. I got used to a rather monotonous diet fairly quickly, and it helps a lot that I live alone and don't have to deal with what anybody else is eating. Just keep doing it, one day at a time, and keep thinking about that wedding in Hawaii.
