I was raised by a mother who told me about the wire hanger deaths of neighbors in her Yorkville (Manhatten) neighborhood. Most cultures who know how to use herbs know what to take to induce an abortion.
Bottom line: for whatever reason (often difficult), sometimes women will seek to abort an unwanted or dangerous pregnancy. The issue is the laws of the culture as to whether the women will be able to have safe abortions or not.
