(2,314 posts)I get my blood workups often, because my chemo makes me anemic and knocks down my magnesium.
The blood transfusion sounds worse than it was, sorta like a normal infusion, except that I was in a hospital bed.
My biggest complaint about all of it is that when I started out, I was told NO over-the-counter meds without approval. Well, they just as easily could have said Tylenol, Imodium, Claritin, etc. are all okay if you need them. They treat the patient as though she's a moron, who, if you say, "well, you might experience this or that side effect," that it WILL happen. I like being prepared and I don't like having to wonder why things happen (like that nobody said getting IV magnesium would give me diarrhea).
I'm so close to the end of chemo now that I'm not even worrying about this stuff any more. I have Protonix, anti-nausea meds, Lomotil, and I'm taking Benefiber, a probiotic, and eating yogurt every day. Digestion has been my worst problem and I'm doing everything I can to make the next ten days tolerable. I even have Rush Limbaugh happy meds, in case I need to just sail away for a few hours.
Then I plan to celebrate with a great big Pina Colada (as soon as that's okay)!
I had been making my husband a soup similar to what you described...I need to get back to that soon!
