4. I have come to believe that people who become addicts are Highly Sensitive People.

Highly sensitive people are those who feel strongly and deeply. They are empaths. They absorb the world into their psyches and bodies for good or bad. Trauma puts us in a place where we can not feel the ugly and harsh anymore resorting to whatever we can to escape the pain and suffering.

Being an HSP is an asset, not a detriment. Society does not get that so they often treat HSPs with a lack of understanding and compassion.

I honor you and your friend for taking the road of sobriety. Protect your whole being. Be kind and loving to yourself. You are supported by an army of people who care about you.
