and substance abuse to psychosis. He has the financial means to keep going indefinitely, so I don't think there's anything that could propel him into a 12 step program, even if he were completely sane.

Anyway, I'm very happy for you that you applied yourself to his hard work. Yes, it's a lifelong process, but I saw it work for a beloved uncle (who had decades of sobriety before his death from old age), and for his friends from the program -- so just keep taking it one day at a time, Stuart! Never give up on yourself!
