They won't be putting anyone on the moon any time soon, true. In science, culture, standard of living, and so on they are stagnant (or regressing).

But these societies are very persistent and likely won't die off any time soon.

I think it's more likely the rest of us will at some point make an exodus from this planet and leave these guys behind to fight among the ruins.

Which they will continue to do until the sun god becomes upset and swallows the earth whole.
