a nationwide program that started around 1919 to control venereal disease that ended up targeting mostly women, of course. "Morals Laws" allowed women suspected of--well, basically owning a functioning uterus--to be captured, genitally examined at jail, and held in "hospitals" and camps for treatment without trial.
