He was NOT invited to the 10th anniversary celebration of a world series win.
That said, Buster Posey, president of Baseball Operations called a news conference to address the situation in the previous game, where Rafael Devers objected on the field to be pulled for a pinch-runner in a close game. What I got from that is that he never spoke to Devers, but that Devers and this manager had worked it out on the plane ride back, and the team played a spirited game upon return home.
What he DIDN'T say speaks tons.
He was asked about the players who wrote Genesis something or other on their caps, to protest Pride Night. As far as I can tell, wearing an unaltered uniform is the ONLY requirement on players, who are free to express their opinions everywhere else.
Some points:
This is actually not Posey's job. A senior official in the organization should have addressed it.
He did NOT help by bristling at the questions and saying "I'll answer baseball questions only"
Point A.
Someone else high up in the organization should have addressed the issue, but didnt. They have a chief diversity officer (I found out this morning) and other (silent) executives.
Point B.
The importance of honoring the fan base apparently was not communicated persuasively to the players before the game, which apparently was done very successfully in the past.
Giants' management's dead silence on the issue, not even a press release, has made a shitstorm of the situation.
Now, I heard that our "Christian Nationalist Homophobic DOJ" is investigating the "denial of religious freedom" to the protestors, so there MIGHT be. a reason, but it is NOT communicated, and certainly, the DOJ is threatening a vast number of people in basically a war of attrition, or stochastic terrorism, suing everyone who doesn't salute the Fuhrer, and one should not go along with those fascist knuckleheads.
I get the sense that their silence on the matter is a sign of guilt over failing to get players on board, and then covering it up with silence (which, according to the Streisand Effect, only amplifies it)
It's a total shit show and nobody in the Giants' organization, normally very aware, (except for Magat Leper King owners Charles and Greg Johnson) is saying a word.
More as this unravels.
