In 1980, Republican Ronald Reagan sabotaged Jimmy Carter's efforts to release the hostages in Iran (AKA the 'October Surprise'.) The hostages were released on Inauguration Day, 1981.
In 2024, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu prolonged the war to deny Democrat Joe Biden a diplomatic victory by achieving a ceasefire and getting the innocent hostages released.
