Following the tumultuous events in Jordan, Khalaf (by then using the nom de guerre Abū ʿIyāḍ ) reportedly organized a group known as Black September, which conducted terrorist operations in Jordan and elsewhere. He was thought to have orchestrated a number of the group’s actions, including the killing of 11 Israelis at the 1972 Olympic Summer Games in Munich, West Germany.
