1. Related: UN Wants Immunity for Terrorist Employees

Israel has rejected a demand by the United Nations that immunity be granted to one of its Palestinian employees who was convicted of working for Hamas.

Waheed Borsh was a high-ranking official with the UN development agency UNDP in the Gaza Strip. He was arrested by Israel on July 16 on suspicion of using his position to aid not the average citizens of Gaza, but rather their Hamas terrorist overlords. Earlier this month, Borsh was convicted of these crimes, which included diverting UNDP funds to build a facility for Hamas naval forces and convincing his employers to prioritize the reconstruction of destroyed homes belonging to Hamas officials.

The UN insisted that as one of its employees, Borsh should enjoy diplomatic immunity.

Israel was having none of it.

“Israel rejects the claim that a person assisting a terror organization recognized by the international community such as Hamas could enjoy immunity,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nachshon said at the weekend.
