4. Employers want employees to have cars

which are expensive to buy and maintain, but they don't want to pay enough for the employee to maintain that kind of lifestyle, especially when rent, health care, child care and student loans are competing for such a large portion of workers' wages these days. Something has got to give and young people are giving up cars. I think it's good and will spur greater investments in mass transit.
