A couple of the things the article mentions though is the addition of a third track, removing some of the curves, and to design the track to allow trains to pass more easily. It's apparent that trains currently do not spend much time at their top speed because of these things. In fact, at 165 minutes to travel 123 miles, the trains average only 32.8 miles per hour.
