11. Tribes to the rescue

I don’t know anything about any treaty rights the tribes in Minnesota have with the state. In Washington state the tribes have very well established treaty rights for hunting and fishing in “usual and accustomed” places. After some trouble in the 1970s the state relented and began to cooperate with the tribes.

The result has been a strong combination between the tribes, environmentalists including the hook & bullet crowd, and human rights groups which has resulted in numerous “saves”. So hopefully Minnesota can team up with the tribes and save the day.
