We moved to Libya in the 60s, during development of their oil resources. We were evacuated when political opposition to the monarchy and the west got serious in the late 60s. Many years later, I worked at BP as a training consultant, and learned about their history in the Middle East.

Our continuous wars have VERY deep roots in oil. Seems to always trace back to oil. I think we are transitioning, or forking in the road now, between control of oil, and control of information. Neither offers a promising future for humans or the earth.
