Ignoring everything about Kerry himself, it would seem really strange to nominate Kerry at this point. It would open his Senate seat and that could possibly lead to losing a Senate seat that we have. (It seems hard to figure what would happen - would Warren continue fighting for Brown's seat or take the easy way out?)
