And whenever I argue with Libertarian/Republicans about the need for government and regulatory agencies, I used to tell them that regulations are the reason that you can go into a building and be relatively secure in the knowledge that you're not going to fall through the floor. If it was left up to developers, they would cut every corner imaginable and bribe everybody in existence to avoid accountability when someone inevitably died from their shenanigans.

This video explains it way better than I ever could, and I will use it in the future for just such arguments.
