...in the plural? That is ridiculous.

While stationed in Japan, I had a good friend who was in the protocol office. His last name was Penix. I sure as hell would have added an "h" to that to make it Phenix if that were my last name. He was a really great guy, but I knew I would never pursue a romantic relationship with him because of my own last name - Ball. Mine was bad enough, and there is no way I could have changed it to Penix, or hyphenated.
