And select 'Open as Administrator". If this is not in your context menu, try 'Take ownership' and see if that makes a difference.

There has just been a windows update. I haven't seen any ill-effects (yet).

To do a file system check follow these steps:

1. Open My Computer window.
2. RIGHT click on the C drive and select Properties
3. The resulting window will have several tabs. Select the Tools tab
4. First object is Error Checking. Click on CHECK
5. You may get a message that you don't need to check the drive. Don't matter, do it anyway.

Most times, you can get it to check while still using the computer but you also may need to 'Schedule a file check' for the next reboot.
