But I'm sorry to hear about all of the job losses. A friend of mine (young liberal guy guy) will lose his job there, unfortunately. The loudmouth people in front of the cameras will all find another job at right wing rags like The Sun or even the National Post, but the people behind the cameras, many of whom were not right wing assholes will have to carve out a niche for themselves in a shrinking industry.
Though I must say Andrew Young (@SpartanVTyranny) tweeted a few good points today:
To "traditional media is dying," I reply: "Why?" Then I wait for an answer that doesn't implicate SNN.
Traditional media folks say, in unison, these job loses are a tragedy for an already decimated industry. But why is that industry hurting?
I'd love to hear an answer - e.g. trust, relevance, diversity of voices, lack of debate, ossification, etc. - that SNN wasn't exacerbating.
Blogger Neville Park (@neville_park) had harsher (but still true):
Yes, it's a loss for journalism. And that's great! There is way more journalism in the world than there ought to be.
I've said this over and over: many peopleracialized people, Muslims, trans people, sex workersonly ever get screwed over by the media.
When you all start giving a fuck about the role you play in shaping the narrative, I'll start giving a fuck about your precious jobs.
