Police arrest suspect in stabbing death of Metro bus driver in Seattle [View all]
UPDATE (12/21, 8:30 a.m.): The man suspected of fatally stabbing a King County Metro bus driver in the University District early Wednesday was arrested Saturday morning.
According to a post on the Seattle Police Departments SPD Blotter, officers were flagged down by a King County Metro driver near 3rd Avenue South and South Main Street, who informed them that suspect Richard Sitzlack was believed to be on board.
Police could see him asleep in the back of the bus. Additional patrol officers were dispatched to the area, and he was arrested at 4:51 a.m. (Saturday), the post reads. Sitzlack was transported to Seattle Police Headquarters and interviewed by Homicide detectives. He will be booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Murder.
According to the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office (KCPAO) Thursday, Sitzlack, 53, was previously arrested in November 2023 in connection with a fatal stabbing homicide investigation. However, attorneys said because SPD investigators did not send the case to prosecutors for a rush file charging decision, Sitzlack was released after 72 hours in line with court rules.
