Youngblut's Death Penalty Case Paused as Judge Grants Delay in Vermont Federal Court [View all]

BURLINGTON – In recently released court documents, a federal judge has granted a joint motion to delay the capital murder case against Teresa Youngblut, the Washington woman charged with the shooting death of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in January 2025. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Christina Reiss excluded 180 days of preparation computation under the Speedy Trial Act and suspended all pretrial deadlines due to the case's complexity and the voluminous, ongoing discovery process.

The motion, filed on February 4, 2026, argued that it would be "unreasonable to expect adequate preparation" within the existing time limits, a finding the court subsequently endorsed.
