Pa. police chief found guilty of repeatedly raping girl beginning when she was 4 [View all]
A former Pennsylvania police chief is behind bars after being found guilty of repeatedly raping a girl, joining in on sexual assaults that began when the girl was 4 years old. At the time of his arrest, Getz was the Weissport Borough police chief; he has since been fired.
Brent Getz and his friend Gregory Wagner Jr., both of Lehighton, were arrested and
charged in 2019, following an investigation that began in 2012 when the victim disclosed the abuse to a teacher. Wagner previously pleaded guilty to rape of a child and sexual exploitation of children, and as part of the plea agreed to testify against Getz.
Prosecutors said the girl was 12 when she reported to a teacher that Wagner was sexually assaulting her. The girl alleged Wagner repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted, starting when she was 4 until she was 11 years old, and that Getz joined in on the assaults. The teacher reported it to the Franklin Township Police Department and, after an investigation, no charges were filed at that time, prosecutors said.
The complaint was dismissed by a district judge due to a paperwork error and the charges were not refiled.
Wagner was interviewed and reportedly admitted to sexually abusing the victim over the course of several years, prosecutors previously said. He also reported Getz sexually abused the victim, and that they would do so together.
