School bus company offers $168 per day in response to regionwide driver shortage [View all]

A school transportation provider in the Pittsburgh area announced on Monday that it would more than double its wages for employees in response to the regionwide shortage of school bus drivers.

David Sunstein, president of Sun Coach Lines, said in a news release that his company will offer all new and existing commercial drivers license-certified school bus drivers a guaranteed rate of $168 per day, an increase of more than double the previous average rate of $80 per day.

Mr. Sunstein said that he hopes to hire at least 50 new drivers this summer, but is willing to hire as many as 100. A school bus driver shortage has been a longstanding issue, but the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the problem as many drivers left their jobs for more steady work.

Candidates must be over the age of 23 to apply. Those who are interested can apply at http://www.driver-reach.com/l/s86aj or call 412-678-5113 for more information.
