Ohio State to pay $5.8 million in second settlement with Strauss accusers [View all]

COLUMBUS -- Ohio State University will pay $5.8 million to settle lawsuits by another 23 men who alleged sexual misconduct by the late university physician Richard Strauss.

The university announced the settlement — its second agreement involving Strauss' accusers — Tuesday afternoon. As part of the agreement, participating plaintiffs will dismiss their claims against the university, Ohio State said in a news release Tuesday.

The news follows an earlier settlement first announced in March, in which the university agreed to pay $40.9 million into a fund for 162 plaintiffs from 12 lawsuits.

Tuesday's agreement settles another five lawsuits, and brings the university's settlement spending on the Strauss matter to $46.7 million among 185 plaintiffs.
