Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine says his original face coverings mandate went 'too far' [View all]
Making an appearance on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said his original mandate to require face masks and coverings for retail customers last week went "too far" before he reversed his decision.
DeWine received criticism after his announcement Monday. During his press briefing Tuesday, he announced a change of heart that face coverings and masks were strongly recommended, but not required for retail customers.
"It became clear to me that that was just a bridge too far. People were not going to accept the government telling them what to do," DeWine told ABC's Martha Raddatz. "And so we put out dozens and dozens of orders, that was one that it just went too far."
Employees will be required to wear face coverings unless told not to by a doctor, industry best practices or federal or state laws and regulations.
