A personal account of the WNC Disaster from Instagram [View all]
Sorry tor the lengthiness of my post. I live
slightly east of Asheville. My grandson and 1
had to evacuate this morning. Back home,
thankful for minimal damage, but there is
damage. No power, no water, no gas available
anywhere between Black Mountain and
Asheville. Was told it may take a week to get
water and power. Plan on gathering wood for
my fire pit to use to cook what can be
salvaged from freezer. Will need to carry
water from the creek that damaged our home
to flush the toilets. Will need to ration food
because we do not know when supplies will
come and the one local grocery store will
open. We have food, but need to be careful.
Have enough drinking water for a few days.
I'm a camper, so I'm somewhat prepared, but
can kick myself for not getting propane for my
Coleman, thus the fire pit. I wasn't prepared
for this! Many people lost their homes. My
eyes are witnessing sights only seen in
movies. We`'re isolated here in the mountains
roads are impassable, vehicles are washed up
onto the railroad tracks, tracks are crumbling
tractor trailers are in the river nearby, bridges
are out. People are on their rooftops, or stuck
in their attics waiting to be rescued. People
aimlessly walking around dazed and
confused. Many messages on fb seeking out
help, or trying to locate loved ones. If you read
One Second After by William Forstchen, you
can read about my valley after an EMP attack.
Well, we are living it at this moment. Thankful
for all the emergency crews and locals helping
one another. Thanks for the prayers and
concerns coming in from family and friends
across the country. Be safe out there! This
grandmother is voting blue for my
grandchildren and future generations
Please keep North Carolina in your prayers. Help when you can. Thank you. 🙏❤️
