The "mediums" art classes I took in high school and college were great. I learned so much through exploring various types of printmaking, painting, illustrating, etc. Materials cost a fortune and unless you get introduced by a group who provides the materials you would end up broke and don't learn anything either. Introductions must be provided by trained artists and educators for the best outcome. Then the kids can explore on their own the few new methods they liked the best.
