My maternal grandfather homesteaded and mined near Valier around about the same time. I was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Conrad during WWII while my father was serving in the Navy. I know the Valier-Conrad area quite well and drove through there earlier this year.

I'm glad that the rest of the homestead was saved and especially that no one (human) was hurt. I know well how fire departments - and neighbors, including Hutterite neighbors - respond in need.
