Union members go on strike at south Springfield manufacturing facility [View all]

Union members at the Timken manufacturing facility in south Springfield are on strike.

More than a dozen workers began picketing outside the plant on West Battlefield Road at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

They held signs reading "Fair Contract Now!" and "ULP Strike" — the latter featuring apparent shorthand for the phrase "unfair labor practices."

Steelworkers Local 662 member Taylor Young, 23, told the News-Leader that the union represents more than 300 workers at the facility. He said the union's last contract expired June 30.
