Back in 2003, the owner/operators of aircraft at Meigs Field in Chicago never even got a warning that the city was closing the airport. Mayor Daley sent a bulldozer in the middle of the night to tear up the runway by digging two deep X's on each end of the runway. Pilots had to use the taxiways to "evacuate" their aircraft from the now-closed airport. I always thought that was a shitty thing for Daley to do.
