University of Michigan regent hopeful deleted posts praising Hezbollah leaders
A candidate for the University of Michigan Board of Regents reposted, and later deleted, praise for Hezbollah and antisemitic remarks on his social media account, deleted posts obtained by The Detroit News show.
The posts on X, accessed through the internet archives, show attorney Amir Makled retweeted several posts in June and July 2025 praising members of the U.S. State Department-designated terrorist group. This included posts referring to the Hezbollah's former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israeli airstrikes in September 2024, as a "martyr."

He also reposted the antisemitic posts from far-right influencers, including Candace Owens. The posts he shared from Owens from July 2025 included those where she called Israelis "demons" and said Israel is "demonic" and defined by "bloodlust."
