4. Water was absolutely gushing in to the sump hole, early this afternoon

It was scary because if the pump would have failed, there would be no way I could ever keep up, trying to bail out the water.

After the big flood, back in the mid 1970's, my Dad always had 2 sump pumps in the sump hole. one running and one that he could easily switch on, should it be needed. He also installed floor to ceiling stand pipes in all of the basement floor drains so that if that kind of flooding ever happened again, the water would rise to its level in the pipe, instead of throughout the basement. He got a lot of press for that idea. My Dad was a very clever and resourceful guy.
