Massachusetts Only 1 Of 2 States That Requires Permission

BOSTON -- State senators are set to vote on a bill that supporters hope will expand testing for HIV, the disease which causes AIDS.
The legislation scheduled for debate on Thursday would eliminate the need for patients give written consent before they can receive an HIV test. Massachusetts is one of only two states that currently require written consent
The bill instead calls for "verbal informed consent" for HIV testing.
The legislation would continue to require written consent before doctors can share any HIV-related medical information with anyone other than the patient or other doctors treating the patient at the same facility....
