MassGOP Vice Chairman Tom Mountain resigns as executive committee poised to investigate ‘allegations’ against him
Second in command at MassGOP, Vice Chairman Thomas Mountain has resigned hours before the state party’s executive committee was set to hold a special meeting on “allegations” involving him, the Herald has learned.
“For the good of our Party, I will be stepping down as MassGOP Vice Chair immediately to focus on an effort to clear my name,” Mountain wrote in an email to committee members late Sunday evening, which was obtained by the
Herald.
The agenda for Monday’s meeting laid out two very specific items: “Discussion regarding the allegations involving the Vice Chairman” and “recommendation for actions to be taken,” according to the weekend memo sent to the 21-member executive committee by MassGOP Operations Director Madeleine Cammarano.
Chairman Jim Lyons confirmed the memo, saying he called for the executive committee meeting after receiving “numerous calls from members of the state committee asking me to look into and investigate allegations … from recent articles that have shown up on a blog indicating he has been involved in very bizarre, disgusting and very demeaning behavior towards women.”
