The Raptor Trust in NJ is another one of these facilities.

As a long-time birder, it's uplifting to see these groups take care of injured birds.

If you're looking for hands-on, close up work with birds, visiting a banding station is a great way to experience birds. Powdermill, run by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, is a great place.

Banding is done during spring and fall migrations and many of these facilities allow the public to witness their work. Even for experienced birders, it's surprising to see how small many of the backyard birds are.
