Patients of Lewiston dentist told investigators tales of blood and tears [View all]

AUGUSTA — Newly released records from state dental overseers paint a more detailed picture of alleged misconduct by a Lewiston oral surgeon whose license was briefly suspended but who is now free to practice in Maine and two other states.

A series of brief outlines of complaints brought by unidentified former patients of Dr. Jan Kippax charge that he pulled the wrong teeth, failed to provide pain relief, did little to halt bleeding and hustled patients out of his office without following discharge protocols.

One patient, for instance, told the Maine Board of Dental Practice that Kippax pulled the wrong teeth and that he woke up choking on his own blood.

Another described “screaming and crying” as more teeth were yanked out than necessary, with “uncontrolled bleeding” in the aftermath.
