liquor store to buy wine or booze in Iowa. You could buy 3.2 beer in grocery and other retail stores, but nothing stronger without dealing directly with the state. Although it was before my time, you used to have to take a small state issued book with you to the liquor store in which your purchases would be recorded. If the clerk thought you were drinking too much, he could chastise you, or refuse to sell you booze.
