We’re angry. Republicans in the Iowa legislature have advanced dangerous personhood legislation that puts women's lives at risk for the sake of perpetuating a political agenda. What’s even worse: Senator Joni Ernst is praising this bill -- even saying she’s “grateful” for this legislation.

Joni Ernst is so focused on her radical right-wing, anti-choice agenda, that she’s forgotten some troubling facts about the maternal health crisis brewing in Iowa:

FACT: In the past three years, the maternal mortality rate has doubled in Iowa -- more than 40 women have lost their lives from maternal mortality in the last three years.
FACT: Dozens of labor and delivery departments have closed in Iowa, forcing some women to travel 2.5+ hours to have a healthy delivery.
FACT: Iowa ranks 50th in the nation in practicing OBGYNs -- due in large part thanks to Kim Reynolds’ Medicaid privatization disaster, devastating Iowan’s access rural health services.
FACT: The Iowa GOP banned thousands of women from receiving care from UnityPoint and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for family planning services.
The facts are clear.

It’s absolutely absurd that Joni Ernst touts a women-first campaign message, and then turns her back on Iowa women by supporting this dangerous act of political theater. And it’s exactly why we need to defeat her in 2020.
