2. I was a single guy without kids and was screwed by my company over this kind of thing.

In my case, I was working with single parents and was stuck working late covering for them on a regular basis. My way of looking at it was that if my bosses wanted to accommodate them, it shouldn't be at my expense. They could have and should have hired another person. I never held it against my coworkers with the kids, but that was one reason I ended up leaving.
